Viggen Wheels / tires

I know this topic has been kicked around a hundred times, but I'm looking for some help. I have a 2000 Viggen and really need new tires and wheels. I've been putting off replacing the originals because I'm a bit of a purist and don't really want to mess with the original look of the car. However, I've had it with the softness of the OEM wheels and need to replace them.
In terms of tires and size, I want to stay with 17inch, but I'd like to pick up a size or tire that rides a little smoother. The roads here are lousy and after nearly 7 years with the car, I'm tired of my teeth chattering. So, anyone have experiences with different size tires that help the ride?
For the wheels, I was thinking the Moda R1, which looks similar to stock, but they don't appear on the Tire Rack site any more. So, I'm thinking I may have to do something else. Does anyone have photos of their Vig with different wheels? Any thoughts on something that is less than $200 a wheel and looks good. I'm not looking to have the flashiest wheels in the hood, just something classy and nice (perhaps 5 spoke to stay close to original).
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
