Yes, the fan should come on (on low speed) after the car is turned off in really hot weather.

This could be symptomatic of the resistor for the cooling fan motor failing. Mine died earlier this year, and I was unaware and it resulted in speeding the death of my A/C compressor. When the resistor fails, low speed won't work anymore and the fan will only work on high speed. This is why it won't come on with the engine off. Your car will not overheat because high speed still works.

Normal operation is as follows:
The fan's low speed should come on when the car reaches operating temp in hot weather to cool the engine, and the high speed will only come on in stop and go type situations with lots of heat (Sorry I don't have the temp ranges handy, Haynes is at home.), or if the A/C is turned on.


Since your AC works you can easily test to see if both fan speeds work... Get your car to normal operating temp, find somewhere to idle and pop the hood. Wait for the low speed to come on, then turn on the A/C. You will be able to hear the difference. Although, I am sure that others will post a better way, but this simple test could have saved me a compressor. Hope this helps.
