for the second time in two weeks because the "rebuilt" compressor from Hancock Industries (http://www.hodyon.com) had a wobbley pulley. Bad bearing I guess...
There are 3 bolts that hold the compressor on my '01 SE. To get access, I removed the air box, innercooler hose, bottom radiator hose (yes, drain coolant), move PS pump out of the way (doesn't move far but helps. Bolts are accessed through pulley and 1 inboard)and 2 plastic covers(in wheel well and under car). I loosened the 3 compressor bolts and removed the two top ones. Move the compressor to remove the last bottom one. Remember to put this bottom bolt in BEFORE putting comp. in place. Then disconnect the A/C lines from the comp. The comp. just barely wiggles out from under the car. I bungeed the A/C lines up and carefully placed the new comp. in place with the o-rings on the compressor. Start all 3 bolts and hand tighten. Check the o-rings with a mirror and carefully place the line assembly on the compressor and hand tighten the bolt. Tighten everything...
By the way, during my first install, I did not replace the dryer or anything else. I didn't even evacuate my system; just charged with an AutoZone bottle to the "Green Zone". Air was cold and worked fine until the bearing failure... Good luck, C.
