Hello all, and thanks in advance for any insight you can offer.
My '98 CSE 5 speed was recently 'totaled' (hit from behind on the expressway while slowed down for an accident)and have been sharing my wife's '97 CSE turbo automatic.
Want to get something for at least a few months that is more fun to drive than the CSE auto. Have to say, of the six(?) Saabs I've had over the past 20 years the '98 CSE was my favorite, although my first Saab, a '86 900 turbo 5 speed was the car that started my whole Saab 'affair.' Bought it with 23,000, sold it with 403,000-wonderful car!
I don't know anything about the more recent 900's. I'm planning on looking at a '97 900 SE turbo coupe, automatic, with 100,000 miles on it in the next day or so. What should I look for (or look out for)?
What kind of performance should I expect in comparison to the 9000 series? Acceleration? Handling? Gas mileage?
What are the weak spots on the car, and what generally breaks around 100k? What's a fair price for the car assuming it's in reasonably good condition. It's available through a dealer, no records, a trade in from the original ownwer. I'll have my Saab tech look at it before I buy.
Is this a fun car to drive? Corner well? I read somewhere that it had a sport mode for the transmission. I recently drove a 2000 9-5 Aero, auto, that had the sport mode, and although it wasn't a 5 speed, it was a nice driving car.
Any of your thoughts or personal experiences and recommendations will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Rick
