It's a matter of "smacking" the electric motor part together with the gear box so that the latch that you released when pulling the red handle holds them together.
You see, the red handle is only a one way ticket in an emergency situation so that you can temporarily close the top.
The owner handbook states to see a Saab dealer to re engage the motor unit again.
It might take a couple of tries with your hand to push the motor back in place so that the two gears mesh and the latch catches correctly.
