900s cranks but won't catch Posted by Slaab [Email] (#1275) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Slaab) on Sat, 25 Aug 2007 22:19:55 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I was unexpectedly called to Canada for 2.5 months and left my:
1996
Saab 900s 2.3L Auto
320K
parked in southern California and nobody was available at the time to periodically start it for me. Before I left (late May), it was fine and the local indie replaced the leaky distributor and gave it a synth. oil change. It ran fine for a week and there's been no history of hard starting.
Tried to start it after charging the battery and cleaning off the plugs (sooty and a bit worn). It cranks and cranks, but it just won't kick over. Several times it sputtered. When cranking, the CEL light is the only one that remains lit. Shifted into neutral to try to start it with no luck. Did all of this on a warm 85F afternoon.
Serp. belt is fine. Fuel seems to be getting to the cylinders. Checked for obstructions in the intake--none.
Neighbor has a slow charger with a shutoff, so we're giving the battery a full charge. Tomorrow AM, I'm changing the plugs.
Any thoughts/ideas would be appreciated.
