1999 9-3 Turbo, 159k miles, manual climate controls.
I've got a whole slew of air conditioning related problems, and I'm wondering if maybe they aren't related to one another somehow. Here they are, in no particular order:
1: (Very recent problem) Fan speed will only work on 4, or in between individual speeds. Will rarely work on 1, with A/C engaged, but will cut out completely (including compressor) if moved to 2. Sometimes, will cut out randomly and will only start up again if brought back to 0 and turned back on.
2: I'm having to recharge with freon almost weekly (getting to be quite costly)
3: With A/C engaged and coming to stop, engine will shudder...we're talking some serious 'good vibrations' here. Tested same stopping with A/C off...no vibrating.
4. Air distribution box is stuck in one position, which so happens to be 'a little bit of everywhere'.
5. When shutting the car off, I can hear a fan still running. Presumably, is this my radiator fan? I hadn't noticed this happening until this morning...when I also came out to a dead battery. Went out just a moment ago (after recharge of battery and drive to work), and it seemed to be a little slow in starting.
My personal thoughts here are that my compressor is just about shot...which could possibly explain #2 and #3. As for #1, maybe the resistor is shot? #4, is there a cable behind the manual controls on the dash that work the air box....can it come loose or can the distribution box somehow be in a bind?
#5, I'm at a loss....help? Living in New Orleans, not having working a/c during the summer is a death sentence!
Thanks in advance for your help!
