This type of bleeder works in that it only fills the reservoir up enough to meet and equalize the pressure coming from the bleeder.
So if you start with an almost empty container, the fluid level will only go up to about 1/2 full and stay there through the whole bleeding session, automatically filling the reservoir but keep it a 1/2 level.
If you start with a 1/2 full or more reservoir, then yes, it is possible that it fills the whole reservoir before the pressure is equalized and it may spill over when releasing the cap.
Also, if you have an air leak around the cap, it will slowly bleed off the air chamber in the reservoir and fill the whole container with fluid and it will start to leak out.
