'99 9-3 SE HOT w/ 60K mi. Temp. of 90 degrees outside. After staying late at work on Friday, I was decidedly in a hurry to get home - so, when I got on the onramp for the freeway which takes me home, I decided to have some fun in 3rd to right below redline (the engine was properly warmed up at this time - i'm not a sadist.) However, as soon as I shifted in to 5th and maintained the average highway speed, the air from the a/c started getting warm - then hot.
I'm afraid that the clutch has seized and therefore taken the compressor with it, so I turn the ACC on ECON and drive home with the window down to see if I can smell any burning rubber - fortunately, there wasn't any.
Finally, I get home - pop the hood and turn on the a/c again. Starts blowing fresh, cool air and everything sounds alright. No burnt rubber smells, either..
I'm assuming there's a safety switch built in to the compressor to prevent overspeed condition, but i'm concerned that the only reason it was triggered was due to late clutch disengagement.
The a/c blew fine today around town...just like normal. Anyone think i've got reason to be concerned?
