Hi all,
'97 900S 2.3NA 5spd 5dr 163K miles
Replaced the clutch about 2 months/3000 miles ago. CP,PP,RB all done. Old one was the original. the old clutch was making a dry bearing/growling type noise anytime there was any pressure on the pedal, that had become progressively worse for about a year. This noise would get louder with increased engine RPM. I did the job b/c it finally got so loud I got worried it would die and strand me. The old one hardly ever slipped, right up to the end, quite driveable! The noise was the sole reason for replacement.
Now I have a noise that sounds exactly like the old noise, now just very quiet, just like the old one started. You can't hear it over the radio yet. Unlike the old one, however, the loudness of this noise appears to vary directly with wheel speed. It is silent at rest, silent when revving, but you can hear it if you listen anytime the car is moving with the clutch open at more than about 10mph. As before, it's not there ever unless there is pressure on the clutch pedal. Shifting is the same as ever. Car drives fine.
I did not change the clutch cable when I did the clutch, as it only had 25k miles on it (mostly highway). Is this my culprit?
Thanks for your time,
-G
