It started out as random surging at idle when the car was stopped for about a minute or two like a stop light, short stops like at stop signs didn't do it. Then it would also cause some bucking at cruising speed, light throttle used just to maintain speed. Once it started at cruising speed I would set the cruise control and it would continue to do it. It progressive got worse over a few months. It's easy to see at idle because the tach and turbo gauge will fluctuate up and down, and at speed you can feel it and see it on the turbo gauge only.
The problem is with the T7 throttle body throttle position sensor (MY 2000+) and it's integrated into the TB, unlike the T5. The sensor is a potentiometer that wears over time and the wear happens in the most common positions...idle and highway cruising settings, since those are the parts that the wiper on the pot slides over the most. Easy way to know if you have it is when it's surging at idle give it a little gas to get the RPM to about 1200-1500, if it still surges then rev it to 3000rpm. You can use that to measure the areas of the throttle that are reading bad. I would never surge at idle if I was at 2500rpm or higher.
I have the stock BPV so not sure what effects the forge could have but I did disconnect my vac hoses to verify the BPV and all other valves worked before changing the TB.
Good luck,
Eric
