No, don't lift the engine out, just support it with a hoist in place, then drop (lower) the subframe, then drop the oil pan, it all comes out the bottom. Unless you've got nothing better to do.
I don't know what the clearance is, I don't have an engine hoist and didn't have appropriate wrench/torque wrench at the time to lower the subframe, so the mech did it all for me. But consider that the sump goes all the way to the bottom of the pan, so you'd need to find that much clearance.
It’s a cork gasket that's in one piece, good luck.
If you're going whole hog, so long as you have it all apart, think about R&R the transmission mount and there's another engine mount buried underneath there somewhere. It may solve steering wheel vibration if you have that problem, either way they're probably worn by now.
Also check the ball joints for integrity, and the outer CV boot for leaks, and fix/replace while you've got it unbuttoned.
