98 900s Tough Starting after sits 10+. Odd symptoms

Hi,
My 1998 Saab 900s is my first Saab and I have loved driving it. It has 125k, 5 speed, not turbo. It has a very hard time starting if it has sat overnight. It will fire, and stall. It does this repeatedly for at least 10 times usually. One started it acts fine. It will start fine once it has been started once, even after a 9 hour shift when I go out after work, but the next morning forget it. Sometimes it will fire and run for 10 seconds or so and stall, sometimes only a second or so. Eventually though, it always starts. Two mornings ago, I went out and it started right up and was fine, though the engine light came on and was on all day. The next morning, tough starting, and no engine light. I noticed this AM that when it starts if I turn on the rear window defrost the engine will die. It was ok after it ran for a short time though. I am thinking it has something to do with the electical fuel pump?? Any help is really appreciated. Also, is there a clutch safety switch to prevent starting when in gear, mine will start without the clutch engaged. Thanks so much for your help! Eric in NH
