Hi. I have a 1999 9-3 and recently started to notice a rather violent steering wheel shaking. I bought the car two years ago with 141,000 miles, now has about 165K. Took it in and the mechanic showed me how the front passenger side tire was warped like a rollercoaster on the inside half. They said the cause was bad control arms and recommended replacing them. It's a fairly expensive job ... I also need new tires now. Does this sound like a reasonable explanation for why the tires warped? Also, I have a rattle under the hood on the front driver's side. .... shop said it was either a loose strut mount or bad sway bar bushings. Does this stuff sound like normal wear for a car of this age/mileage? The previous owner took good care of it mechanically, but admitted she drove like a demon and put tons of highway miles on it. Also, she put expensive Michelin tires on but they were the wrong rating. Any advice on how to handle this? I got it for $6,000 and it's otherwise a solid car in good shape. Thanks for any thoughts!!!
