Two noises on acceleration

Noise #1:I have a '99 9-3 manual transmission with 119K miles that has been making a brief hum as I accelerate. In the past it was similar in pitch and duration to the chime on an airplane when the pilot turns on the "fasten seatbelt" sign. I hear it more frequently now but for longer periods of time, particularly as I accelerate on an incline.
Noise #2: In addition to that, I am now hearing a noise as I depress the clutch to shift. It is like a faint grind or sloshing sound or like a rubbing wheel whose pressure is released as I depress the clutch pedal and it winds down. I generally hear it as I depress the clutch, but sometimes I swear I can hear it while accelerating in low gear. The intensity seems proportionate to the amount of compression in the turbo just before I depress the clutch; high compression=louder sound. If I slowly take my foot off the gas releasing turbo compression and then push in the clutch it is not as pronounced. Also, it is loudest and most pronounced in lower gears, particularly between 1 to 2 and 2 to 3.
Would these noises be related? Any ballpark idea of what they could be?
Thanks,
Carl M
