Hi Gary,
Thanks for the answer. Well, my car is indeed a '93 900, but of model year '94. 5-door GM body, definitely not a classic 900. Here's what the VIN decoder on saabnet.ru says:
VIN: YS3DC55A7R2000904
Manufacturer: Saab Automobile AB
Product line: SAAB 900 2nd generation
Body type: 5-door Hatchback
Gear box: 5-Speed Manual
Engine type: B206I - 2.0L 16V, 131 hp
Model year: 1994
Assembly plant: Trollhattan, Sweden, line A or B
Serial number: 000904
Control symbol: Passed
SRS: none
As for the ignition switch, everything that is *not* run through the ICE works fine, the car starts & drives totally OK. Within the (supposedly ICE-induced) limitations I mentioned last time, every piece of electrical gimmick just works: ignition & all engine electronics, interior & exterior lights, dash lights & displays, cabin fan etc. All the fuses are OK as is the cabling as far as I could see (engine compartment & driver's side above the pedals, I removed the panel there to check).
The symptoms I described started all of a sudden one afternoon when the car had just been sitting for about a week. No problems before that whatsoever. Would an ICE die just like that? Or would an ignition switch?
The error message "no 15+ detected when 30+ present" to my understanding just says that the ICE did not detect any start voltage with the key in the "on" position whereas battery voltage was OK... but if the ICE's diagnosis were correct, my car would not even crank, right? Or am I mistaken?
Given all this, would you think there might be a fault in the ignition switch itself that can confuse my ICE so much that it acts like it currently does? If yes, is there an "easy" way to access the switch terminals with a meter? You know, I do not have a garage, it's well below -5°C outside, and the recipes for repairing the ignition switch that I have read so far involve almost complete dismantling/removal of the center console...
Any help is much appreciated, and if the recommendation is to get the relevant Haynes manual first, so be it... ;-)
TIA,
-Wolfgang
