Hi all,

I paid for a replacement auto gearbox in August, the mechanic took a month of broken deadlines to fit it, and in early December the gearbox stopped engaging when the lever was shifted, only when I revved the engine.

Took him another month of broken promises to "fix" the problem, which recurred a week after I took back the car - now reverse gear doesn't work either. I called him on Friday to tow the car, but he still hasn't and now I don't trust him, I just want to get the gearbox fixed by a reputable mechanic and sue him (in UK law) for the cost. I have an invoice from him for the work done, but it is dated at the beginning of this year.

Where do I stand, legally, as I don't have any PROOF that he has botched the work more than once?
