I changed rotors and pads on my 02 9-3 SE about 50K miles ago. I would recommend getting cross drilled or slotted rotors, they dissipate heat better, last longer and increase braking in rainy weather. I had never done it before, and was kind of nervous myself. They are all right about that darn screw though, I used a torch and allot of liquid wrench, heat is a great way to loosen old rusty bolts, just be smart about it and be patient. Second is even after you get the screw off those rotors are literally fused to the wheel. It took me about 4 smacks with a ball hammer and a mallet to knock em off. Another great tool is a Brake Caliper Compressor. It’s a great tool to put in-between the caliper and it gently pushes the pad back so you can get it over the new rotor. However if you’re really daring and want a second challenge I would recommend getting a Mity Pump or a power bleeder. Both are great tools to bleed your brakes one caliper at a time. Either way if it’s time for new rotors, it’s a good time to change your brake fluid as well.
Here is a link that helped me, Although he’s working on a VW all the steps are the same and what he also shows are all the chemicals he uses each step of the way, if you don’t want squeaking a few miles after your change your rotors and pads, use the same stuff he does on the web site. Also YouTube has tons of DIY videos now, since I am very visual I always need pictures or to see it first...good luck!
