The handbrake on your car is separate from the foot brake. The handbrake actuates a drum brake that resides within the "hat" portion of the brake disc. The most common cause of the handbrake binding is a corroded or otherwise damaged cable that runs from the underside of the handbrake lever to each rear wheel. It's probably been sticking somewhat when you go forward also, just not enough to really notice. Mine was, and although replacing the cable solved the sticking problem, I later discovered that the handbrake shoes were badly worn from repeatedly being dragged as a result of the sticking cable.
As far as the calipers are concerned, the "Centric" rebuilds from eeuroparts have been good to me. I'm not sure you could even find actual "new" calipers for your car.
