Hi Per,
SLUDGE. SLUDGESLUDGESLUDGE. Whew. Seriously though, with the earlier B235r's, you have to really scrutinize how the car's been maintained, with particular attention to oil change intervals. If it's been done religiously, it's still probably worth dropping the pan to check/clean. These cars are also very sensitive to air/fuel mixture, and the pistons are known to be a little weak. I believe it was the 99's that were the most seriously afflicted, but definitely something to be aware of. That said, and in addition to basic maintenance, be sure the owner has performed the cylinder head bolt replacement/retorque, and the owner has updated to the most recent PCV system. If not, well, not showstoppers - but plan on doing them yourself when you get the car. With my 99 Viggen, I purchased at 65k miles, previous owner was a fellow saab fanatic. I drove it for a while and then did some PM including MAF, PCV valve, fuel filter, plugs, bypass valve, etc at around 80k. Most people who own Viggens know what they have and treat them well - you have that on your side. You can usually tell if a person really loves their car, especially one as unique as the Viggen. Good luck!
