Saab is mechanical clutch; Geo is hydraulic

Saab relies on you to move the clutch; Geo uses hydraulic pressure. Brand new, right out of the factory, the Saab will require significantly more effort (like 2 to 3 times more).
The only way to tell if your clutch needs work is to compare it to another of similar age that is known not to need work. If yours is stiffer, start checking the cable and work from there.
