Hello everyone. I've got a '99 9-3 SE with about 197k miles on it. I recently discovered the diff bushing is wiped out causing the seal to leak. I also believe it's responsible for an odd vibration I've been feeling (feels like mechanical play/rattling through the steering wheel and gas pedal when I bear slightly right and lightly on the throttle). I've read some have been successful cutting the bushing out through the axle hole instead of tearing down the trans. Seems simple enough to me. Get an airsaw, cut the bushing into a few different pieces and pick the pieces out. Then tap in the new bushing. That's how I imagine it works. Before I delve into this I'd like to hear firsthand from someone who's done this. Because if this doesn't go well, I'll be in quite a jam. My main fear is sawing into the spider gear right behind the bushing. Seems like it would be difficult to avoid since they're up against each other (how would I cut the whole length of the bushing and only the bushing?).
Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks.
