After some spirited driving up some hilly mountainous roads the other day, I arrived at my destination with some smoke or steam coming out from under the hood. It appeared to be coming from the driver's side of my engine but I couldn't tell exactly from where. After the car cooled off, I checked all the fluids over there and the coolant reservoir was very low.

I topped up the coolant reservoir and drove home (somewhat gingerly, although 20 miles on the highway and another 5-10 miles stop and go) without incident. The temperature gauge stayed in the middle the whole way.

I was thinking this might be the beginning of a head gasket failure so I took the car to my indy the next day, who did a pressure test on the cooling system and said it looked fine. He said it held pressure without leaking at all for 90 minutes, the thermostat opened fine and when it should, and there didn't appear to be anything wrong. And it has been 10 days since the incident and I haven't had any problems, although I should really check the coolant level to see if it has been dropping.

The car is a 2000 9-3 with about 93,000 miles on it.

Any thoughts on what this could be or what I should be looking for?
