Hi,

Well I am 2 weeks into owning my 2002 9-3SE 5spd (80k miles). Yesterday we took a road trip from Toronto to Ottawa and 100 miles out of Toronto the car suddenly developed a judder i.e. vibration. It's not so bad that I immediately thought something was seriously wrong (i.e. initially I wondered whether it was a combination of changing road surface and snow tires (tires are new). The vibration can be felt mainly through the steering wheel and occurs from around 35mph upwards (doesn't seem to get markedly worse as speed increases). Tires and wheels are new, no banging into curbs.

Anyhow, we carried on like this for another 60 miles (70mph on highway). If I took my foot off the gas pedal the vibration went away i.e. seems to be engine or transmission related. As we had another 3hrs driving I stopped off at a Saturn dealer enroute (unfortunately they no longer dealt with Saabs). They looked it over mechanically and could not find anything obviously wrong apart from small amount of play in one of the driveshafts (not considered significant).

Interestingly, after they lowered the car off the hoist the vibration has disappeared and after another 3hrs driving has yet to return??

Further background - outside temp was -14 deg.C. The check engine light has been on for the last 10 days. Took it back to the non-Saab dealer (they do however know a lot about Saabs, as they sell and service a lot of them). They ran a diagnostic and it came up as 'evaporative loss (or something like that)'. The guy wasn't that concerned and reckoned it was probably the gas cap. He assured me that it was fine to drive and next time they had the car they would explore it further. As the car is still under the sellers warranty for another 2 weeks naturally I want to get the vibration issue (and check engine light) sorted.

Any thoughts / suggestions very much appreciated!
