The tensioner is at the rear of the passenger side of the engine. You will need a 1/2" socket extension bar approximately 1' long. Insert it into the 1/2" square hole on the tensioner and pull forward to remove the tension. Some use a 3-4 mm allen wrench to lock the tensioner, but I just remove the belt at this point. You will need to remove the air cleaner assembly for better access to the pulleys. Chances are that one of the idler pulleys have or are about to lockup. Once the belt is off, turn each pulley to see which one is the problem. I had the pulley on the tensioner fail a few months ago. After I replaced the faulty pulley, I did the short belt mod that eliminates the middle pulley. To replace the belt, you will need to remove the access cover which is behind the front passenger wheel and feed the belt over the crank pulley and all the other pulleys. It's possible to remove this cover without removing the wheel. Just turn the wheels to the right to gain access. It took me about 2 hours to fix the first time. The next time will be quicker.
