Clutch cable I hope... please say yes....

I posted this over on the performance board but then thought I should probably put it here.... So, out and about for about 3 hours after I left Jak's place (super awesome stage 3!)... about 10 miles from home, my clutch decided that it didn't want to play anymore. The clutch itself only has about 10k on it. Here's how it went down: I hit it hard in first and shifted into second, immediately the pedal felt like it didn't return all the way. Drove it to a friends house near by but really had to push the stick to get it into gears. Popped the hood, poked around at the clutch cable a little, pulled on the adjuster under the fuse box in the engine bay, started it up again and as soon as the clutch pedal is pressed in I can hear a whirring noise, kinda like what I'd imagine the clutch disk barely touching the flywheel...If I put it in gear, it starts kind of a grinding noise that gets louder as I engage the clutch a bit. Tomorrow I plan to tow it home, put it up on jack stands, take the cable off and start it in gear with fingers crossed that the hideous noises are somehow just caused by that cable... Does this sound familiar to anyone? The grinding type noise I'm describing only started after I tugged back and forth on what I believe to be the adjuster (white cylinder thing under the fuse box in engine bay).. Someone please tell me not to worry, no big deal right?! What a soul smasher, I had an ear to ear grin all the way almost home today and then this happened... I'll be up all night searching more previous posts. Thanks for any words of wisdom!
