Conv. top stuck part way up

I have a 2003 93 Convertible and today the convertible top wouldn't go all the way up. The top is stuck with the front a few inches from the windshield, the rear window pushed forward into the rear seat and the tonneau cover sticking straight up. The top will go neither up nor down from here. The message the SID gives me is "Check Soft Top" which, according to the owner's manual, means something is in the way. I have checked many times and can't find anything blocking the movement. The car really isn't driveable with the tonneau sticking up like this, not to mention the fact that one could climb into my car though the rear window like this...basically I can't lock it. The owner's manual has a manual has a section on manually lifting the top, but it assumes the top is all the way down and one of the first steps requires opening the trunk to release the lock on the tonneau...something I can't do with the tonneau sticking straight up. Ironic, I know.
If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them.
Thanks!
