I purchased a nice blue 4dr 96 SET knowing it had issues and th owner was very good about revealing them to me and out of about 15 problems I only have 2 or 3 minor ones left.
I do have a boost issue still.. I have: r+r'd all vacuum hoses, Replaced plugs, removed and re-crimped and decided to solder all connections on the O2 sensors...there were 3 loose on the front o2 and 1 loose on the rear o2..the heat shrink job looked nice but I just had to check. I swapped out the MAP with another used-unknown quality MAP that was included in the deal. Replaced the DI, again with a DI included in the deal although it definitely looks new...there are a few more of these still. Also when replacing the plugs there were 2 cracked insulators...that had been cracked for awhile(dirt in the cracks).
The turbo spools nicely when short-cutted. Also...the boost seems to work after the car has run for about a half hour...then again that is not a hundred percent...the boost valve clicks when 9v applied and passes the suck test.
Another sensor maybe?
