More Clues on the Mystery whooooo noise

2000 9-3 base model auto tranny 100k miles
Recap: I have a medium volume whoooooo noise that occurs on cold startup for a few minutes. It increases tone w/rpm, even with the car stationary.
I replaced the idler puller, the tensioner assembly, and the bypass "hooter" valve. None of that changed anything.
I started the car with the serpentine belt loose, and the noise was still there.
My indy dropped the oil pan and cleaned the pan and pickup tube. There were no signs of significant sludge. There was a little debris, but lots of clean shiny aluminum. The noise was unaffected.
I have a stethescope and the noise seems loudest on the metal pipe that goes from the rubber pipe attached to the MAF down to the turbo. I can also hear it on the turbo and the metal turbo bypass pipe, but it is somewhat less loud there.
It sounds like air, if that makes sense. The engine air filter is clean and the MAF is clean. I opened the airbox and reseated the filter to make sure it was in tight. The noise is still there.
I'm running out of things to buy based on my half-baked theories. Does anyone else have a half or fully baked theory?
I have PCV mod #6.
I'm also in the rinse phase of my second auto-rx run. I'm running Shell Rotella T 5W-40.
Thanks for you patience and interest. This is getting to be an obsession.
