I had posted about this issue last year, and still haven't solved the issue. I'm hoping for any new thuoghts at this point.

I have a 2002 Viggen that has a detonation issue. It is most evident in 2nd and third gear, obviously as the boost comes on. Numerous techs at two dealerships are at a complete loss as am I (past tech).

The DIC, fuel pump, and mass air meter have been replaced. The computer has the latest software in it also. Plugs have been replaced. I have tried both PFR7H-10 and PFR6H-10 at both max and minimum specified gap with the same results. The detonation actually seemed a little worse with the colder plugs. Cam timing has been checked and verified to be correct. I use only Shell premium (91 octane) fuel and run a bottle of Techron through it monthly. I even went as far as mixing 100 octane racing fuel in with several tankfulls to achieve an octane of approximately 94-95.... all with the same result: detonation.

The dealer techs have checked all values with the Tech II, and tell me the readings could not be any more ideal.

I am frustrated and have no idea what to try next. Luckily, the car is still under CPO warranty, but that runs out in December. I'm just hoping the thing doesn't decide to sneeze out a piston right after the warranty lapses!!!

If anyone has a suggestion, please share!

BTW -- I live in AZ, so I have the crap CA gas in a very hot climate. The weird thing is I get detonation regardless of ambient air temperature. Doesn't matter if it's 70 degrees or 110.
