If you already had a K&N then the difference in sound would be negligable. I don't think a cone filter is a good idea. You're better off with a K&N and a custom intake that brings in cold air from outside the car, not hot air from the engine compartment. Personally, while I like GS a lot, I don't think they should sell a mod like this. We spend all that time cooling air down with an intercooler or upgrading the intercooler for more performance. Why would you want to pull in hot air from the engine bay?
Also, aside from the above performance downgrade, I don't think you will see any real change. You can open up the intake, but if the output is still restricted, you won't see additional flow through the engine. That's the reason people replace the downpipe and exhaust when looking for more HP. THe K&N you had was already open enough to maximize the intake.
