V6 external engine oil cooler: Can it be done?

Based on replies to a previous post, I will remove and inspect a suspect engine oil cooler and check out the rear valve cover gasket on a 1995 900s 2.5l V6.

My question is: can I replace the original oil cooler with an external air/oil cooler?

Searching the BB, it seems only one or two people with a V6 have done or contemplated this. V6Vert converted the internal cooler to an external (with an oil thermostat) using a 4 cyl external oil cooler. How feasible is this? And, if so, what kind could be recommended (size, capacity, oil pressure etc.)?

I live in a warm climate (sub-tropical) and am wondering whether an external engine oil cooler will cope…

Again, any advice would be appreciated.
