Direct ignition failure

I apologize if this is covered in detail elsewhere but it's been a tough day. I have a 94 900SE turbo that would not start after stopping for fuel today. It turns over and the fuel pump runs at least the first couple of start attempts. The tach needle lifts off the pin but does not flutter during start attempt. There is a hot burned electrical smell from direct ignition module. Waiting for things to cool down does not help. I'm assuming the DI is toast but am wondering if some other failure could have cooked the DI. I don't want to drop in a new DI and have it cooked because I didn't look further. Thanks.
