First off, I have an '01 9-3 SE, but I believe our AC systems are almost identical.
As a DIYer who needed this same thing a couple of months ago, my recommendation is to take it to a professional. Not just a mechanic, but an auto AC specialist. I've been able to do AC work before on my own, but only got things sorted out after a lot of frustration (and luck!) and not much in the way of savings.
Hopefully you'll find a good, honest AC guy like mine here in TN. He charged me $176 or so TOTAL for everything - labor, refrigerant, dye, everything. The evaporator on your Viggen is one of the easiest to access in any modern car. No need to take off the whole dash, just the passenger side kick panel. My AC guy said it only calls for something like 2 hours labor. Good thing for you to know.
Another important note: DO NOT try to save a few $$$ by getting the aftermarket evaporator kit from eEuroparts. That Chinese made garbage is worthless and will not fit properly. I hope you got the OEM evaporator kit; if not you should exchange for the OEM. A very good indie shop here in the Nashville area (EuroFix) even said that they will not take on this job if anything other than OEM is supplied. Don't repeat the mistake I made. Note: I think eEuroparts is an excellent company to deal with and I continue to do business with them, but I think they should stop selling these kits.
Anyway, that's just my 2 cents. Good luck with everything. Just keep your eye on the prize - nice cold air in your Vig!
