Hey all,
I was hoping to get some advice on the board as this is my first 9-3 after ownig several classic 900's. I bought a 1999 9-3 Convertible (base B240L, 144k miles) with an overheated engine, no start. Compression test shows 30-40 psi cylinder pressure accross the board. I was hoping for jumped timing (yeah right) but timing marks are good so I'm thinking collapsed rings or head issues. Going to pull the head to get checked at my machine shop. I'd like to try to re-ring/rod bearing the motor if the cylinder bores check out. I REALLY don't want to pull the motor as I'm way too lazy and don't have the space. I'm not looking for a factory spec rebuild here. I was hoping for some help on the following quiestions:
1. Is it possible to drop the pan with the engine in? It looks like I can loosen the mounts and jack the engine up for the pan to clear the subframe, is this correct?
2. Should the timing chains/tensioner be replaced? Can this be done with the engine in?
3. Anything else that should be checked or replaced?
Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.
