I know I may have lost my senses and be wasting mine and everyone’s time with a "gas saving" device, but this one sounds a little more plausible than most, and I am wondering if anyone has tried it and is willing to admit to it publicly... the Vortec Cyclone
http://www.vorteccyclone.com
It "is a non-moving vortex generator that fits inside the air intake hose of your car's engine. It creates a swirling cyclone of air within the combustion chamber, leading to better airflow, increased fuel atomization and more efficient combustion. " and that "Some manufacturers are building swirling fins into their intake manifolds".
Personally I have a hard time seeing how something in the intake hose can create vortexes all the way into the multiple cylinders through the valves openings… but I can see how it may improve general airflow from before the throttle body and into the cylinders. I know tuners and hotrodders spend a lot of time and money making the airflow path as smooth as possible.
They only claim an average of 1-2 mpg better mileage... so assuming 1 mpg and $70 for a pair, the payback period for my 1999 9.3 and wife’s minivan would be about 4 months.
