Haynes manual has good info on this. Another source is alldatadiy.com.
Here's the procedure from alldatadiy:
--Engage 4th gear.
--Remove the plastic plug on the gearbox and insert locking pin tool No. 87 92 335, or equivalent, with the ring uppermost.
--Remove from above the clamp which holds the gear rod in the linkage on the gearbox.
--Engage 3rd gear so that the gear rod and the linkage part company.
You see? First you lock the gearbox in 4th so that everything stays aligned while you have things apart. You do not need a special tool for this purpose -- an allen key or a small screwdriver will work fine. After the box is locked in 4th you loosen the clamp that holds the shift rod. Then you shift into 3rd and the rod will pop out.
When you assemble things you align the shift rod wth the clamp opening and shift into 4th. This inserts the rod into the clamp. You tighten the clamp bolt (go easy, the spec is only about 20 N*m), remove the locking device and shift around to check for proper function.
The instructions are actually here on this board, so you may want to do a little more digging.
