It has been some time since I've made a post here. That likely means that things have been going well... and in general they have been.
I have a '95 900SE convertible with 125K miles. My ACC problem is this. The system has been failing with increasing frequency to full heat. After some disassembly and diagnosis, I have come to the conclusion that the damper that proportions the amount of air that passes through the heating coil is sticking/binding. The stepping motor that drives this damper seems to run just fine, but doesn't have enough torque to move the damper when it starts binding.
I can't figure out a way to access this damper without removing the entire heater/AC housing, which according to Haynes requires pumping down the R-134 and disconnecting the coolant lines from the heat exchanger.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is there an easier way to solve the binding damper?
