I found the following excerpt on another forum:
"Both the Motronic (900S) and the Trionic ECUs have separate codes for lean and rich, for example,
P1171 Saab Closed Loop, Lean Mixture
P1172 Saab Closed Loop, Rich Mixture
According to Saab, the code shows up when the condition persists for one minute. If it is caused by a vacuum leak, given that this is not a turbo, then the vacuum line from the throttle body to the fuel pressure regulator is a likely suspect."
Have you changed the vacuum line between the intake and the Fuel Pressure Regulator? Unregulated fuel pressure can cause a too rich mixture condition. Have you tested the FPR by sucking on the vacuum line (careful or you might get a gasoline surprise if it's leaking!).
The front oxygen sensor makes only minor adjustments to the mixture; the rear sensor only provides information to the OBD system that your catalytic converter is working, does not control the mixture.
