So I had posted about the car dying on the way home at a light. Then intermittently working and not working. Did all of the electrical checks - swapped Direct Ignition Cassette (DIC), checked plugs, and swapped the Crakshaft Position Sensor (CPS)
Still no start.. Signs pointed to CPS, but no luck. :o(
I tried checking voltages, etc., but then after the very scientific tests of replacing everything else, turns out the ole' bang on the tank got things going... literally. I turned the key, heard the faint, death sound of the pump trying, and lo and behold, it cranks and starts.
This allowed me to start the car again and make it five blocks. Then died again. Had my dad join my adventure and tow me behind his pickup. While being towed, was able to pop the clutch and get going yet again, which allowed me to pull it in to service.
Been debating about DIY, but the prospect of siphoning a full 18 gallon tank, and having the car in the driveway (would most likely take me all day) while I crawled around under, hoping to have the right parts, etc., paying won out. I have done brakes, suspension, other engine work, but just not motivated to do this one after the quote.
Going to try Pat Leary Motor Cars as situation won't allow me to get it to Al at Impact Motors in Rochester, nor even Checkpoint (although it will be quite a bit more expensive I imagine). Price quoted is not too bad, and they will have me up and running in a day and a half (have to order/overnight the part, and understandbly wouldn't do so until the car was there).
Seems to be an epidemic as of this past week or two. Hope the rest of you work it out.

- If it seems temp related, usually the CPS, Mark Anderson, Fri, 15 Aug 2008 08:01:43
