I would make sure too that your family and your daughter are up to the task of taking care of the car. Saabs as you may or may not know are not cars you can just drive and forget about. I had a 2000 9-3 (not SE) in manual. I did like the car, it was comfy, good looking, had enough speed, had a ton of room, and was great for trips. With snowtires the car does superb in the snow.

Luckily mine was a CPO vehicle, aka Certified Pre-Owned. I had a ton of problems with the car. Luckily the warranty took care of them, but if I had to pay for them on my own I would be broke. They included the entire AC system, the turbo charger, left front strut, tape on side pillars, lights behind the climate control buttons, and some smaller things as well. Started to have some screeching in the engine bay, turns out the idler pulley needed to be replaced. This was all before the car even hit 70k miles too.

With that said, I do like Saabs, so I just bought an 06 Saab 9-5 wagon which I like very much as well. I just would not buy one unless it was under warranty. This 9-5 is a CPO too. I think the CPO program is wonderful. You can read my other posts too about various issues I had with the 9-3.
