I recently had a hole in my ac line that was diagnosed at a tire place, they said they could fabricate new one for 1/2 the price of dealership, but ended up paying 140.00 for diagnoses then told me they couldn't fabricate. Saab Dealership charge was 400.00.
Now, a month later, it is broken again and telling me it's the evaporator. They quoted 1700.00 to replace. I thought about using stop leak, but feel it might be a mistake and cause more problems.
The car is in great esthetic shape and I can not afford to buy another car (Been paid for since 2005)
In the last 3 months, The battery blew up and had to pay 300.00 for new cables/battery. New alternator for 860.00, new ac control unit for 300.00, and a bunch of other misc. things around 300.00. Then there was the 400.00 for the hose and now 1700.00 for evaporator??? The dealership told me that I will expect to pay 2k a year from now on (not including regular maintenance) due to the age of the car and the "nature" of the brand...it was like someone threw a switch! "Sylvia" has had no major issues up until now: the LCD panel was replaced and then back to partially burnt out within months, and there is some pealing of the vinyl around the outside door jamb area...
I don't think 100k on a car is "old" but all of these repairs and proving their statement!! I've asked a lot of people, including mechanics about using leak stop and the response has been 50/50. My Dad goes crazy when I tell him the cost of these repairs and he thinks I am getting ripped off. I live in a small area in FL and the dealership has the corner on the saab repair market.
Please advise!
