Wow, I have replied to a lot of posts, but I really wanted to give you some advice.
Overheating and cracking plugs are a really bad situation. Often a really hot cylinder chamber is a result of a lean air/fuel mixture. The result is very explosive combustion cycles. Depending upon how lean you are the engine might be suffering damage to the cylinder walls and pistons. If you look up pictures of the innards of turbo engines which have been run lean they have divots in them that look like they were sanded down with an angle grinder. If your spark plugs are getting eaten alive, chances are your engine is as well.
I would first check your fuel filter, and injectors. If you have not replaced your fuel filter in a while that could be the culprit. Also, I would buy a higher grade of gasoline (93 octane), that will help thicken our your air/fuel mixture and cool down your cylinder temps.
