"Bad water pump" + derailed serpentine belt, - Pt2 Posted by Justin VanAbrahams [Email] (#32) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Justin VanAbrahams) on Sat, 4 Oct 2008 15:30:05 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Using Dean's excellent step by step, I replaced the water pump on the new-to-me 2000 9-3 convertible. While it was apart, I also replaced the serpentine belt, tensioner, pulley, small u-shaped hose, upper radiator hose and thermostat. Including a new supply of "Blue" coolant, the Eeuroparts bill ran about $400.
I was pretty nervous when I turned the key this afternoon, but the car sprang right to life and idled beautifully. I took it on a 10 mile test drive around town with no signs of issues.
Using Enzo's (I think - hope I got the name right) instructions, I tore apart the interior to find the soft top reservoir, added about 1/2 pint of $30 (thesaabsite.com) GM top fluid and ran the pump for a short while. After a couple more Soft Top Failures the 5th bow opened up and the top went right down and back up again. Sweet!
I'm now $1800 into this car ($1200 for the car, $400 at eeuro, $100 for a new battery) and pretty stoked. Only thing left to deal with is the ABS module failure - I'm sure with BRAKE/ABS lights on and no speedometer, a $150 rebuild or a used part will take care of that issue.
$2k for a 9-3 convertible is okay in my book...!
