Fuel Pump Insert Sucess-Thanks Ron, Bazil et al Posted by Roger D [Email] (#1121) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Roger D) on Thu, 9 Oct 2008 22:37:31 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
She's back on the road and purring. I ended up using the tip from Bazil. I got a premium NAPA pump insert for $90. It's a Walbro made in the USA. The insert is # N89424 and carries both the NAPA and Bosch logos on the box. I considered the eEuro $250 assembly but it's made in China and only been around for a year so track record is still to be determined.
The Bazil method of removing just enough plastic line to remove the old insert and pressing the new pump on with a brake line flaring tool worked beautifully. I pushed the pump on the line in 2 stages using the 5/16th setting on the flaring tool. I've done a couple plastic line repairs on c900s using heat on the line method. The results worked but the line wrinkled because I didn't have a good method to clamp the line.
After I finished it seemed to me that the assembly looked very much like the c900 pumps from the 1990s. I dug out a spare pump that I pulled from a 1993 c900 at the U-pull-it last year. It looks the same except the float arm for the gas gauge sender is missing. I checked the part numbers on the bottom of both assemblies and they are the same!
