Can it be done? Im sure it can with given time and extra expense. The 9ks use a T-25 while the 9-3s use a GT-17. Not the same at all. As you have said, the inlet and exhaust are swapped sides and have different methods of bolting up.
Im sure the extra time and expense to get MacGyver over there to figure it out would not make sense.
If your aim is get something a bit more reliable than the GT-17, change over to a TD-04 from a HOT or Aero. You will only need to swap the oil and coolant lines. The turbo will bolt right up to the manifold, the intake and exhaust will bolt right up as well. Then you wont have to get creative. There will not be any added performance from the new turbo unless you reflash your T-5 or T-7 ECU with a different version.
