Hi All,

I'm hoping if somebody can tell me if these things are normal:

First, I was inspecting the underside of my 2000 9-3 SE HOT the other day and noticed some oil residue on the underside of the gearbox. It never drips on my garage floor. It seems to be crusted on the RH drive axle and around where the RH drive axle enters the gearbox. Picture here:

Should I be worried about this?

Second, I noticed some grease splatters coming out of underneath the RH inner driver joint boot. The boot is in good shape. Pic of the splatters here:

Is this normal? Is it a sign the inner driver is going? I have had some vibration on acceleration, but after a wheel balance it mostly went away.

Grabbing and shaking the drive axles on the right side, I feel some play at the RH outer CV joint, less than a mm and only in-and-out, not up and down. I can't feel any other play anywhere else on the RH side.

On the LH side, I can't feel any rattling play in the joints, but I can push the inner joint up-and-down about 2-3mm - it looks like it's pivoting just inside the gearbox seal. Is this normal? The seal on that side looks clean.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Tim
