I have been using Redline MTL for the last 3 years in my 00 9-3 SE (137k). The factory fill is a synthetic as well, but I flushed it out with an interim fill of Redline MTL (I had to buy 4 quarts) because I could not get concise answers about compatibility. While this car(00 9-3) always shifted better than my 94 900 SE (non-synthetic factory fill), shifting was noticably improved after I had switched to MTL. It has been in there for 45k now and I will change it out this summer. I did notice that it was harder to find this time than when I originally bought this three years ago, but I bought 2 quarts from Summit Racing on line, I could not find it at any of our sponsors. Google Summit Racing and do a search on their site. Capacity is 1.8 quarts for your trans. Just under 10 bucks a quart.

Bottom line is that I have been impressed with the Redline MTL and the car still shifts better than any Saab I have ever driven. You could always go back with the Saab OEM stuff and you would not have to flush it out. I think the Redline was worth the hassle.

Tip- make sure you can loosen all three hex plugs, the fill, drain and check level plugs. If car has been subject to lots of road salt, this can be very difficult. No one was ever able to loosen any of the plugs on my 94 900 SE which was exposed to 3-4 Michigan winters. My 00 9-3 is a southern car and there is no corrosion or electrolysis, so it was easy. You will need to make a special tool by getting a long 8mm hex key from Sears and cut about 1/2" off the small end so it can fit in the drain plug as there is little clearance between it and the frame. I would not trust a Jiffy Lube to do this...maybe your indie is a good place to go, if you dont want to tackle it. There are some great archives on DIY for this.
