So let this be a warning to you all, get your PCV system taken care of NOW. Not next week, not when there's a problem but NOW. Turns out the original unmodded PCV system was in place, so my mechanic is upgrading that, cleaning up the mess and fixing a few other potential oil circulation problems while he's at it (something about the cams). I'm at 78k miles and he said he's seen a couple 9-3s with blown engines from the same thing around 110-120k. He also talked to the Saab techs at our local dealer who didn't sound very positive about the sludge related warranty extension... getting money out of Saab is HARD.
I love these cars dearly, but after this fix I'm probably done with Saabs. The expense and heartache just aren't worth it to me any more (at least till I change my mind :p ).
