I bought a 94 900S 2.3L non-turbo. It was a non-starter when I purchased it. Once I got it running I discovered another problem. It was very hard to start. I went through alot to resolve these so I thought I would post my knowledge in the hope that it might help others.
1. No-start issue - on a 94 2.3L if you have no spark you will have no fuel. To determine if the fuel pump will run, run a jumper from the fuel pump fuse to the seat heater fuse. Turn the key to the ON position and you should hear the fuel pump run. If that runs the likely culprit is the Crank Position Sensor. If you measure the resistance between pins 1 and 2 you should measure between 800-950 ohms. If it is infinite (mine was) then it is definitely dead. Replacing it got the car going.
2. Hard start issue - it seemed to take alot of cranking to get the car started. As it became colder the problem got even worse. I replaced everything (wires, spark plugs, distributer cap, rotor, etc) and nothing made much difference. The coolant sensor (NTC) is difficult to access but this is where my problem was hiding. To test this go find a resistor with a value near 8K. Pull the NTC connector and put the resistor across the connector and try to start the car. My car started almost immediately on a day when it was 22 deg outside. I was not able to get it to start at this temp before.
